The FAHS Museum has been the result of the hard work of many volunteers and grant organizations.    FAHS was awarded a Museum Makeover grant to create a new interactive display for visitors in conjunction with Conservation ConneCTion and the Connecticut League of History Organizations. The grant is administered by CT Humanities and funding was provided by the Connecticut Department of Community and Development/ Connecticut Office of the Arts from the Connecticut State Legislature.

The Collections Management Committee also worked  Traveling Museum Curators assigned to FAHS, Elysa Engleman from the Mystic Seaport Museum and Nicole Carpenter from the Westport Museum for History & Culture. Arleen Andersen, a graphic designer with the Mystic Seaport Museum, also consulted on the project.

The new wall panel, “What We Bring With Us,” and the companion interactive door panel, “What Would You Bring?” were installed on November 5, 2022 as a result of this work. Additional exhibits about Poultry Farming as an occupation for Finnish-American immigrants in Eastern CT, an Imatra exhibit, and a forthcoming Sami exhibit have been part of the educational information added to the museum since then as well.

We are currently curating a "What We Brought with Us" exhibit for immigrants from all countries to compare and contrast what different cultures valued most when they came to the United States. Please contact us by clicking the button below if you are interesting in loaning any pieces to the museum for this up and coming exhibit.
