Pikkujoulu (Finnish for "little Christmas") is a Finnish traditional party held to anticipate Christmas. The Pikkujoulu party is non-formal and highly festive, with all of the holiday spirit of the Finns! Our annual Pikkujoulu event often follows a Membership Meeting at which there is a pot luck for lunch. There is guided caroling in Finnish followed by a visit by our very own Joulupukki.
Joulupukki is the Finnish name for Santa Claus, but it literally translates to mean "Christmas Goat" which is a remnant of the connection to Scandinavian Yule traditions historically celebrated primarily in Northern and Western Finland. Most importantly, though, the Joulupukki comes bearing gifts (provided by attending parents).
A silent auction and/or raffle also add to the spirit of giving for Joulupukki so the grown-ups have the opportunity bring home their own special gift as well.
